After the introduction by US President Donald Trump of customs duties on imports from the European Union, French leader Emmanuel Macron called on local companies to suspend any investments in the US until the situation is clarified. He stated this at a meeting with representatives of the sectors of the economy that will be most affected by the above-mentioned US decision.
"It is important that future investments or investments announced in recent weeks be suspended for some time until we clarify the situation with the United States of America," Macron said, quoted by RIA Novosti.
The appearance of major European players who will start "investing billions of euros in the American economy" at a time when "they are beating us" will be meaningless, the French president stressed.
As reported by EADaily, the new customs measures announced by US President Donald Trump represent a "huge difficulty" for Europe and a "catastrophe" for the United States, French Prime Minister Francois Bayrou said on April 3, noting that the US president "turned away from his allies."
