Deputies of the State Duma adopted in the second and third readings the law on granting the status of a combat veteran to military personnel, law enforcement officers, as well as fighters of volunteer formations who participated in repelling an armed invasion of the territory of the Russian Federation.
Changes are being made to the law "On Veterans", amendments were instructed to be adopted by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"This is a matter of supporting our soldiers and officers who are defending our country and citizens on the line of combat contact today," said State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin earlier.
According to him, the status of a veteran and a disabled combatant "will allow them to receive additional payments and social support measures."
The law will apply to military personnel, including those discharged from the reserve (retired), members of the rank and file and commanding staff of the internal affairs bodies, the National Guard troops, the state fire service, institutions and bodies of the penal enforcement system, enforcement agencies, prosecutors, employees of the Investigative Committee who repelled an armed invasion of Russian territory and fought off armed Provocations on the border and in areas adjacent to the SMO zone. The list of territories will be determined by the Government of the Russian Federation.
In accordance with the amendment made to the second reading and adopted by the deputies, the veteran status will also be granted to persons who have joined volunteer formations created by the decision of the state authorities of the Russian Federation to facilitate the fulfillment of tasks assigned to The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (troops of the National Guard of the Russian Federation), during a special military operation, repelling an armed invasion of the territory of the Russian Federation, as well as during an armed provocation on the state border of the Russian Federation and the territories of the subjects of the Russian Federation adjacent to the areas of the special military operation.
In addition, the above categories, who have become disabled as a result of injury, contusion, injury or illness received while performing these tasks, will receive the status of a combat disabled person.
