The previous US President Joe Biden made his first public speech since leaving office on January 20, broadcast by American TV channels. The speech took place at an event of disability rights defenders in Chicago. Earlier, Biden gave a speech at the conference of the union of electricians, but it was not public.

In his address, Biden mainly spoke about social security in the United States, criticizing the cuts introduced by the current administration, but the name of his successor, Donald Trump, was not mentioned in the speech.

At the same time, CNN reports that many Democrats would like Biden to refrain from public speaking, considering him at this stage rather a burden for the US Democratic Party that has lost power, since Biden finished his term with record low approval ratings.

It remains unclear whether Biden will be able to found a center or a library in his honor, as previous US presidents usually do with money donated by their largest donors.

"Many dedicated donors felt cheated and ignored during his presidency, fighting for such basic things as invitations to holiday receptions at the White House … Several donors told CNN that they felt too angry and offended to write checks," the channel reports.

So far, Biden has not even started calling donors, which surprises some of them, while one of his longtime supporters told CNN that "and glory to God."

The ex-president almost does not get in touch with his former team and fellow party members, many of whom publicly called on him to withdraw from the race last summer after the failure of the debate with Trump and doubts about the state of his physical and cognitive health.
