Romania integrating into Moldova’s defense system

Romania has embarked on improvement of Moldova’s defense system to bring it in line with Western standards, Chief of Romania’s General Staff, Lt. General Nicolae-Ionel Ciucă  said at a meeting with Acting Defense Minister of Moldova Viorel Cibotaru in Chisinau.

The partires conducted monitoring of the current state of the Moldovan-Romanian relations in the military field, assessed the implementation of joint projects, dwelling upon participation of Moldovan military in the multi-national and bilateral exercises.

The other point in the program of the bilateral consultations was the initiative of a joint peacekeeping battalion that will comprise the militaries of Moldova, Romania and other countries.

Nicolae—CoIonel Ciucă   met also with Chief of Moldova’s General Staff, Commander of Natinoal Army Igor Gorgan. The drills scheduled for 2015 and the enlarged ones planned for 2016 were on the agenda of the discussions. Igor Gorgan welcomed the ongoing multi-national exercises EFORT COMUN 2015 in  Bălţi that among others involve Romanian militaries from 1 51st Mechanized Infantry Battalion "Războieni."

While on a visit to Moldova, the Romanian military delegation visited the Motorized Infantry Brigade “Stefan Cel Mare” and the Education Center of the Moldova Brigade to help conducting the exercises.

Moldova and Romania launched military cooperation in December 1992. In June 2015, in Brussels, the defense ministers of the two countries adopted a joint package of concerning the Consolidation of Defense Capabilities for the Republic of Moldova.
