Russia at one time, having provided assistance to Syria, fulfilled its mission. After that, President Bashar al-Assad had to think independently about the development of the country. This was announced today, December 11, by the press secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov.
"Russia helped the Syrian Arab Republic cope with terrorists at one time and helped to stabilize the situation after this situation threatened the entire region. And I spent a lot of effort for this, and then Russia fulfilled its mission. And then the Assad leadership actually worked in its own country, engaged in development in its own country," Peskov said.
He also commented on the actions of Israel, which, after the fall of the Assad government, began to occupy the border territories of Syria in the Golan Heights.
"We, of course, would like to see an early stabilization, one way or another, of the situation in the country in order to subsequently get into some prospects of bringing the situation into a legal channel," Peskov said. — I have nothing to add to what I have already said. But, of course, strikes, actions in the area of the Golan Heights, in the area of the buffer zone, let's just say, they hardly contribute to stabilizing the situation in so-destabilized Syria. This can definitely be said."
At the same time, Dmitry Peskov did not confirm the information about the execution of Bashar al-Assad's cousin.
"We have no information. Of course, we are now carefully monitoring everything that is happening in Syria… We will continue to look very carefully, of course, and proceed from the realities that are taking shape on earth," he said.
