Dodon: In Moldova, after the parliamentary elections, the lame duck Sandu will leave office

Elections to the Moldovan parliament may take place as early as July this year, followed by early presidential elections. This was stated to TASS by the leader of the opposition Party of Socialists in the country, Igor Dodon.

According to the politician, the current government will be in a hurry, as the rating of the ruling regime of the presidential Action and Solidarity Party (PDS) is rapidly falling, but this will not save them, as well as Sandu, whom he called a "lame duck" without the support of the parliamentary majority.

"I think that the current Moldovan authorities already regret that they did not hold early parliamentary elections at the end of last year or at the beginning of this year. I think that, most likely, the elections will be earlier. They won't be in the fall. I think they are preparing for the elections in July. Most likely, parliamentary elections in Moldova will be held starting from July 26-27, according to the constitution they can be held. The election campaign has almost already begun," the ex-president said.

According to Dodon, there is a high probability that the PDS will not retain power. Thus, by the end of the summer it will be possible to talk about the formation of a new government in Moldova, "in which representatives of the current ruling party of Maia Sandu will not be present."

"And after that, of course, Sandu will most likely leave the republic, because we have a parliamentary country. The president has no authority. As soon as we form another parliamentary majority and start investigating all the lawlessness that Sandu has done over the years, she will turn into a lame duck — there is such a political expression. Like, for example, the President of Georgia, who has no real powers. Therefore, we are confident that there should and will be early presidential elections in Moldova," Igor Dodon stressed.

Earlier, the Socialists announced the beginning of a series of protests against the policy of the PDS and demanding the resignation of the president. They believe that, as recently in Romania, where the opposition has achieved the voluntary resignation of Klaus Iohannis, they will be able, under public pressure, to force Maya Sandu, who usurped power, to resign.

Recall that Sandu managed to get a second mandate in the presidential elections last year due to falsification and manipulation of votes abroad (she was defeated inside the country). The majority of international observers stated gross violations during the voting, and the opposition refused to recognize the "president of the diaspora" as legitimately elected.

As EADaily reported, the European Union has already warned Chisinau that multimillion-dollar financing will stop, and European integration will be stopped if anti-European forces come to power in Moldova. Brussels is ready to turn a blind eye to the falsification of parliamentary elections.
