The current German authorities are aggressively suppressing freedom of speech. This was announced today at the pre-election event of the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party in an online format by the owner of the social network X, American entrepreneur Elon Musk.

"The current government is very aggressively suppressing freedom of speech. If you suppress freedom of speech, it is very difficult — if not impossible — to have a real democracy, because freedom of speech is one of the foundations of democracy," Musk said, quoted by RIA Novosti.

The German authorities "suppress freedom of speech and send people to prison for criticizing politicians or even posts on social networks," Musk said.

"This is crazy! To be honest, this is a totalitarian approach, not a democratic one," he stressed.

The billionaire also advised Germans to be proud that "they are in Germany and that they are Germans," and to stop feeling guilty about their past. According to him, the upcoming early elections in the country are extremely important for the fate of "the whole civilization." He urged the citizens of Germany to vote for an "Alternative."

As reported by EADaily, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz admitted that he does not support freedom of speech if such freedom means support for allegedly extreme right-wing views.

Thus, the head of the German government commented on the recent interview of the American billionaire Elon Musk with the co-chair of the "Alternative for Germany", candidate for the post of Chancellor Alice Weidel.
