Former Danish Minister for Greenland Tom Heim said that allegedly there is an agreement with Britain that if Greenland is sold, then London has a priority right to such a purchase.
The 83-year-old former Danish politician turned to Donald Trump via the Sunday Times newspaper:
"Sorry, Trump! Britain has the primary right to Greenland."
According to Heim, in 1917, the treaty between Washington and Copenhagen about the Danish West Indies. According to the document, the United States bought colonies in the Caribbean from Denmark in exchange for Danish sovereignty over Greenland.
"This means that the United States has legally recognized that Greenland is and always will be Danish. But it seems Trump has never heard of it. If Trump tried to buy Greenland, he would have to ask London first. In 1917, the United Kingdom demanded that in the event of the sale of Greenland, Britain should have the right of pre—emptive acquisition," Tom Heim continued.
