Russian Ambassador to the UK Andrei Kelin said that in London he was offered to leave his post and request asylum in the kingdom.
"Here I was also offered to resign from my post and request asylum in Britain, and there were such probations here," he said on the air of the 60 Minutes program on the Rossiya—1 TV channel, answering the corresponding question of the presenter.
According to Kelin, these proposals came to him openly.
He noted that the UK's position on the Ukrainian conflict remains the same, since the British "have invested a lot in the confrontation with Russia." In his opinion, now a change of positions will mean for London to admit that it is wrong.
"Therefore, the main installation remains here — it is inflicting a strategic defeat on us, regardless of how relations are developing on earth now. This is a purely opportunistic thing. Why this is happening, I also understand why they are in this rut. In general, if you turn it off, it will mean recognition of your erroneous policy in recent years," the Russian ambassador summed up, quoted by TASS.
