The United States is formulating a new approach to interaction with Russia in a new way, US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said on Fox News channel.

"We are reforming the way we do business with Russia. The first step was the conversations of the President (US Donald) Trump with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin and with (Vladimir) Zelensky, and then the subsequent negotiations in Riyadh," he said.

Waltz added that the United States is also re-formulating how the country is building a partnership with Ukraine in terms of the economy and critical minerals so that "the people of the United States get a return on huge investments in the country."

Last week, on February 18, a meeting of the Russian and American delegations took place in Riyadh. Following its results, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that an important step had been taken towards the restoration of relations during the negotiations. However, he also noted that there is a long way to go to normalize relations between the two countries. The US State Department also stated that one meeting is not enough for lasting peace.

The United States has also been negotiating with Kiev for several weeks to gain access to Ukrainian minerals. In exchange, Washington promised Kiev security guarantees. Trump estimates Ukraine's obligations to the United States at $400-500 billion.

Initially, Kiev rejected the conditions proposed by Washington, now the parties are discussing a new version of the document. The US president threatened Kiev with problems if he did not agree again. Zelensky refused to acknowledge the financial claims made to Kiev by Trump.
