Finland has suspended an important transport partnership with Russia

The Finnish Ministry of Transport and Communications, in a publication on its official website, confirmed the suspension of cooperation with Russia in the framework of the Saimaa Canal project.

So far, we are talking specifically about the bilateral Finnish-Russian advisory council.

The partnership is suspended until further notice. This decision was made by the Ministry of Transport of Finland after a detailed study of the research of various institutions.

EADaily reminds that the Saimaa Canal connects Lake Saimaa in Finland with the Baltic Sea. It was opened in 1856, in 1963-1968. reconstruction took place. The length of the canal is about 57 km, of which Moscow owns 34 km, and Helsinki - 23 km. In April 2024, the Finns closed traffic on the channel.
