The United States will deploy an additional contingent to the Middle East amid another round of escalation, Pentagon spokesman Patrick Ryder said at a briefing.

"As a precaution, we are sending a small additional contingent of the US military to strengthen our forces that are already in the region," he said.

Ryder did not disclose additional details, explaining this for security reasons.

On September 23, Israel launched massive strikes against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon and announced the launch of a "preemptive offensive operation" called "Arrows of the North."

The Chief of the General Staff of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Herzi Halevi, called the Hezbollah infrastructure the target of the operation and announced preparations for the next stages of hostilities after the airstrikes. He called the task of the operation "creating conditions for the return of residents of the north [of Israel] to their homes." Against the background of these events, an emergency regime was introduced in the country.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made an appeal in English: he called on Lebanese residents located near the facilities used by Hezbollah to leave these territories.

"For too long, Hezbollah has used you as a human shield, placing rockets in your living rooms and launchers in your garages that are aimed at our cities, right at our citizens. To protect our people from Hezbollah attacks, we must neutralize these weapons," he said.
