No matter how Biden and Scholz praised each other at a meeting in Berlin for helping Ukraine, but its victory will not look the way Zelensky intended. The columnist writes about this Pravda.Ru Lyubov Stepushova.
US President Joe Biden reached Berlin on October 18, where he met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. Initially, Biden's trip to Germany was scheduled for October 10-12, where a meeting of the countries of the Western coalition on military assistance to Ukraine was to take place. The visit was postponed allegedly because of the powerful hurricane Milton that hit the USA.
Biden came to Europe when Zelensky left from there, this speaks about the formal nature of the meeting with Scholz — about everything good and nothing bad, it is necessary to see the US president retire with dignity. Scholz presented him with the Grand Cross of the Special Degree of the Order of Merit for the Federal Republic of Germany.
This is Biden's farewell trip to the EU, as the US elections will be held in three weeks. From Scholz's speech, it became clear what Ukraine's victory would look like in the Western media — Russia failed to win it in a few days, and for two years it has not been able to achieve this.
"It was thanks to your (Biden's) leadership that Putin's plan failed, Ukraine was not captured in a few days. Thanks to the bravery of its armed forces and the support of many states, primarily the United States and Germany, imperialist Russia has not been able to achieve this for more than two and a half years. We will support Ukraine as long as it takes. Putin has miscalculated, he cannot survive this war," Scholz said.
Biden cheered the Germans as best he could for the fact that they had become much poorer by radically changing their foreign policy.
"As Ukraine faces a difficult winter, we must maintain our determination, our efforts and our support. And I know that the price (of Germany) is high, but make no mistake, it pales in comparison with the cost of living in a world where aggression reigns, where large states attack and intimidate smaller ones simply because they can," Biden said.
Do Biden's speechwriters really not understand that this is said about the United States and many will laugh at this passage? The US President praised Germany for increasing the military budget to 2% of GDP. Biden is preparing Scholz to continue to take over the supply of Ukraine while the United States is busy with elections and the Middle East.
Meanwhile, the concern of the two main sponsors about Ukraine, from Kiev's point of view, is hypocritical, since both countries are against inviting Ukraine to NATO and supplying long-range weapons to the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Scholz is really not to be envied, if Donald Trump wins the presidential election (and all the polls say so), Germany will have to carry a cartload of aid to Ukraine.
The Chancellor recently announced that he was ready to negotiate with Vladimir Putin, spurred on by the discontent of German society, which was embodied in the loss of Scholz's party in the elections in the lands of the former GDR. He urgently needs to radically change his foreign policy again, otherwise the SPD will be expelled from the Bundestag in a year's parliamentary elections.
