The SBU detained a 72-year-old mechanical scientist from Kharkov, who was developing drawings for Russia to improve kamikaze drones of the Geranium-2 type. This is reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.
It is noted that the scientist, in particular, worked on the modernization of engines and ejection installations.
"According to the investigation, the defendant remotely transferred technological developments to his friend — the general director of one of the Russian machine-building plants, which produces units for drones. Since 2023, this company has been working closely with a Russian company engaged in the production of Shahed-type attack drones, which are labeled under the name Geranium-2. For communication... It is noted that the scientist involved his former student in the project work, who at the beginning of his SMO left the Kharkiv region for He got a job at Moscow Technological University, where he develops drones for the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
The brave scientist was detained, as stated in the message, at his place of residence in the regional center. A computer, a mobile phone and flash drives "with evidence" were seized from him during searches. The detainee is suspected of "aiding the aggressor state." Now he is in custody, the man faces 12 years in prison with confiscation of property.
As for his student, the SBU plans to report the suspicion to the former student of the Kharkov university in absentia.
