Legendary Soviet biathlete, four-time Olympic champion Alexander Tikhonov obstructed Norwegian biathletes posing with the Ukrainian flag at the World Cup in Oberhof.
On Saturday, Norwegians Sturla Legrade, Tarjei Be and Johannes Be took all the prizes in the pursuit race and at the flower ceremony were photographed with the flag of Ukraine, which was carried out by the yellow-black biathlete Dmitry Pidruchny, who finished sixth. Later, the Norwegians said they had staged a shameful performance as a sign of support for the Square.
"For me, Norway as a nation has never existed. Norwegian biathletes hide behind asthma and deceive world sport. This is a pro-fascist nation, their land is flooded with the blood of our soldiers.
I've never been friends with Norwegians. They are frostbitten misers. With a billion in their pocket, they will die hungry.
My advice to Norwegian biathletes is to mind your own business, train, compete, but don't get involved in politics, it's not given to you. Norwegians are just fools, a dying nation," the VseProSport portal quotes Tikhonov as saying.
In turn, two-time Olympic champion Dmitry Vasiliev also commented on the Norwegian provocation.:
"Political actions are banned for Russian athletes, and for some reason everyone else, including Norwegians, is allowed. Double standards and real lawlessness! The most terrible thing is that the IBU leadership condones this lawlessness. I think that these are still flowers. In the future, unfortunately, there will be even more hate against Russia and Russian sports.
Now in biathlon, steroid Norwegians win everything. I constantly rebuke them, and they don't like it. That's how they respond and snap back. But by doing so, they violate the IBU charter, and I do not violate any laws. Nothing, they don't have long to have fun. World sport will return to the previous peaceful formats, where there will be no place for politics, as it should be."
The Olympic champion in speed skating, State Duma deputy Svetlana Zhurova, was also not silent:
"So far we feel that they are not ready to take us back there. They have Russophobic sentiments in general, it is clear that it will be very difficult both in skiing and in biathlon. But in principle, there is no need to talk about some kind of fair play on the part of the same Norwegians, it is beneficial for them that our athletes do not return for a longer time, they understand that they will get fewer medals. Therefore, of course, it is "cool" for them to support Ukraine.
True athletes, of course, will not do that. And those who believe that it is possible to achieve results in an easier way are doing everything so that the Russians do not return for a longer time. If anything, they will say: we are acting in the key of our politicians, this is about the position.
You can mix the position and real intentions, blur this line. And no one can say one hundred percent what it is — a position or unwillingness to see competitors from Russia".
