US President Donald Trump called Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and demanded that Greenland be handed over. This is reported by the Financial Times with reference to five current and former high-ranking European officials.
According to sources, Trump's conversation with Frederiksen went "very badly": Trump behaved aggressively and confrontationally, he does not accept any Danish offers of cooperation, he is only interested in the transfer of territory to the United States.
If earlier Trump's statements seemed to them to be a political ploy to gain more influence on a NATO country, now many people think that he still seriously intends to annex the largest island on the planet, the newspaper notes.
"The Danes are absolutely terrified by this," said one of the senior European officials, quoted by the Strana newspaper.
