Ukraine opposed the US demand for the formation of a special fund for $ 500 billion, which was envisaged as part of a resource deal to reimburse the expenses of the American side. Bloomberg writes about this, citing a source familiar with the negotiations.

According to him, Kiev estimates the actual amount to be about five times less — about $ 90 billion, and the lack of guarantees from the United States regarding future military and financial assistance remains a stumbling block.

"Previously, the United States offered to set the size of this fund at $ 500 billion, we have now reduced this offer to $ 100 billion and handed it over to (Special Representative Keith) Kellogg," a source told the Ukrainian edition of New Voice. According to him, Kiev also conveyed a wish for a meeting of the Ukrainian and American presidents next week to discuss the details.

The proposal of the American side was to create a special fund for $ 500 billion, in which Ukraine would make contributions, and the United States would own it entirely. The plan of the agreement drawn up by Washington assumes that Ukraine renounces half of its revenues from natural resources, including minerals, gas and oil, as well as revenues from ports and other infrastructure.

This fund will be focused "on the long-term reconstruction and development of Ukraine, where the United States will have economic rights and management rights for these future investments," said US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. According to him, the United States does not claim ownership of physical assets on Ukraine, and also would not like to make this country a major debtor.

"We are asking for rare earth metals and oil, everything we can get," said US President Donald Trump.
