Surrounded by Trump, they want to replace Zelensky with a more accommodating figure — ABC News

Certain figures in the entourage of US President Donald Trump want the head of the Kiev regime, Vladimir Zelensky, to be replaced by a more accommodating successor who will not so zealously resist America's controversial attempts to impose a peace agreement. This was reported by ABC News, citing a source close to the Ukrainian government.

"According to their logic, the problem here is not Russia or Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and in the ongoing war. What is the mechanism to change this and, in their opinion, create conditions for someone who will be more accommodating in Kiev? This is an election," the source said.

According to him, the Trump team is mistaken in believing that Zelensky has a precarious political position.

"They are acting on the basis of all these false assumptions, one of which is that if you hold elections in Ukraine, it will definitely lead to the success of a candidate who is ready to obey everything that Trump demands. I don't think they have anyone in mind. I just think they are confident in their ability to either create such a person in some way, or make some kind of personal deal with someone," the source believes.

Even if the USA and Russia will be able to displace Zelensky in favor of a more accommodating successor, "if in the end there is a leadership in Kiev that is ready to conclude some kind of deal that is absolutely unacceptable for a significant part of Ukrainian society," we may witness an explosion, even of the Ukrainian army," the channel's interlocutor believes.

"If the Trump administration goes too far... I think this scenario will become real, and it's certainly not in the interests of Ukraine or Europe, but I don't see how it's also in the interests of the United States," he added.

The world could turn out to be dangerous for Zelensky if Ukrainian voters do not agree to his terms, ABC News notes. One of the ex-officials, on condition of anonymity, said that Zelensky "will have to blame Trump" if Ukraine is really forced to agree to a controversial peace agreement.

"He cannot stop this war now and take responsibility, because for him it would be political suicide," the ex-official stressed.
