Moscow is not considering any options with the deployment of European peacekeepers on Ukraine. No one asked Moscow about this, and statements by Western representatives on this subject are aimed at heating up the conflict. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at a press conference following his visit to Qatar, commenting on the statements of French President Emmanuel Macron in Washington.
"We can't consider any options. I do not know what is there [French President Emmanuel] Macron spoke [on the deployment of European peacekeepers on In Ukraine], he did not play his role very convincingly in Washington, but the president [of the United States Donald] Trump, when this topic was raised at a press conference, as I read, said that the decision to deploy peacekeeping forces was possible only with the consent of both sides, apparently referring to us and Ukraine. No one asks us about this," Lavrov stressed.
"The approach that is being imposed by the Europeans, first of all by France, as well as by the British, is aimed again at, < in order to warm up the conflict further, and to stop any attempts to calm him down," he added.
The Russian Foreign Minister recalled that Macron's approach presupposes an urgent truce and the deployment of peacekeeping forces, and then discussions about territories, the fate of people and other principles of settlement.
"This is cunning. It is impossible to go to an agreement that is aimed at achieving a single goal, to pump Ukraine with weapons again," the minister said.
According to Lavrov, talking about some kind of peacekeeping forces is "all empty."
"The main thing there is to destroy the root causes of the conflict. They are not in the absence of peacekeeping forces. They are in what I said: in drawing Ukraine into the North Atlantic Alliance with an eye to the development of its territory to create a military infrastructure aimed against Russia, and [for] the total extermination of the rights of Russians and Russian speakers," the Russian Foreign Minister noted.
He clarified that on Ukraine should not have "racist laws," TASS reports.
As the Financial Times newspaper reported, citing sources, Macron was unable to convince Donald Trump during his visit to Washington to commit to supporting any deployment of European troops on the Ukraine after the settlement of the conflict.
