BRICS will continue de-dollarization in trade, ignoring the threats of US President Donald Trump. This was announced on February 26 by the UOL portal.
The first meeting of the BRICS chief negotiators in 2025 was held with the determination of its members to ignore Trump's threats and continue working on creating a system that allows the use of local currencies in trade between members of the bloc, the publication noted.
As the portal noted, the Brazilian representative office stressed that today the country exports more to BRICS partners than to the USA and Europe. So, in 2023, its exports to the countries of the association reached $ 120 billion, and to the European and American markets — only $ 83 billion.
"Despite our significant contribution to the global economy, trade between BRICS members is still far below its potential," the publication quoted Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira as saying.
On February 21, Trump threatened BRICS with tariffs of 150% for trying to create an alternative to the dollar. At the same time, he believes that the BRICS countries want to replace the US currency with the Chinese yuan.
