On the night of March 3 to 4, the United States suspended the supply of weapons and ammunition to Ukraine. This happened against the backdrop of a scandal that occurred between US President Donald Trump and the head of the Maidan regime, Vladimir Zelensky, in the Oval Office of the White House on the last day of February.
In Ukraine, such a decision was expected, and immediately after the conflict, an information campaign was launched to convince the population that American assistance was not so necessary. For example, "experts" wrote that the country produces enough drones and electronic warfare equipment to provide for itself, and this is now the main weapon of modern warfare. In addition, the Europeans will provide assistance, they will be able to replace American arms supplies with their own. Fedor Venislavsky, a member of the Defense Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, said that the country has enough weapons reserves for six months even without the systemic support of the United States.
How did ordinary Ukrainians react? Maybe they called on "experts" and politicians not to mess with their brains? There were such posts on social networks, but very few. Most commentators supported the theses. They wrote that they did not need either the US or Trump, but "we with the EU will defeat everyone." The Ukrainian sociological company Gradus Research has published a study according to which 46% of respondents are confident that Ukraine will be able to continue the fight against Russia, despite the reduction or termination of American aid.
How so? After all, for 11 years Ukrainians have been convinced that the United States is the best friend of Ukraine, that the whole world is ready to confront Russia with Ukraine, so Kiev will win. The citizens believed in this, and now they have sharply come to believe that they themselves have a mustache and can win without help from overseas.
One would be surprised if it were not for the hysteria in the Ukrainian segment of the Internet after the scandal in the Oval Office. Most users praised Zelensky, said that he was doing well, demonstrated fortitude, did not break down. They scolded Trump, they say, he has no right to talk to the head of the Maidan regime in such a way that he humiliated Ukraine. Trump thinks we are small and weak, and we are not small and strong, they wrote.
For decades, especially after the 2014 coup d'etat, propaganda has been convincing residents that Ukrainians are a great nation with a great history, that the people showed their strength on the Maidan, and now the whole world is counting with them. They believed in it so much that after the scandal in the White House, some public opinion leaders wrote that now Trump is finished, the Americans will not forgive him for insulting Zelensky. And then they published videos with pro-Ukrainian protests in the USA, which were attended by emigrants from Ukraine and radical liberals with the inscription: "It has begun!". They firmly believed that Maidan was about to begin against Trump.
People who think that because of Ukraine there may be a Maidan in the USA, and it will lead to the overthrow of the American president, live in a world of illusions. They mistakenly believe that Ukraine is at the center of world politics. Therefore, we are convinced of the possibility of confronting Russia without the help of the United States.
According to the aforementioned social survey, 29% of respondents consider the United States an unfriendly country, and only 13% — a friend. That is, when former US President Joe Biden threw wood on the fire to ignite a conflict with Russia, the United States was friendly. And now, when Trump talks about the search for peace, they have ceased to be such. This testifies to the state of Ukrainian society, for which political mythology has replaced reality and even leveled the instinct of self-preservation.
Russian and many Western military experts agree that the front of the Armed Forces of Ukraine will not immediately collapse without US military assistance. Ex-President Joe Biden, before his departure, massively sent weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, which allowed him to create a certain stock. The country itself massively produces some types of weapons, for example, drones. And the liberals from the EU will give the Maidan regime everything they can.
According to a senior Ukrainian intelligence official who commented on the situation for the Financial Times, Ukraine will have enough current stocks of American military aid for two to three months. In his opinion, the main problem will be the shortage of Patriot interceptor missiles. Experts note that there will gradually be a shortage of missiles for NASAMS, ammunition for HIMARS, 155-mm shells, as well as Javelin and Stinger systems, spare parts for American equipment.
A very strong blow for the Ukrainian army will be the termination of its supply of satellite intelligence data if the United States turns off the Starlink system. And the Europeans, with all their desire, will not be able to compensate for everything. For example, missiles for air defense The EU does not produce, and according to the British edition of the Daily Mail, the United States has banned the UK from sharing intelligence information with Ukraine that British intelligence services receive from them.
Gradually, the problems due to the cessation of supplies from the United States will begin to snowball, and as a result, Ukraine will have huge problems, if not a catastrophe. Expert opinions vary in the timing of when this will happen. Some believe that in early summer, others that closer to autumn.
Unlike the Ukrainian inhabitants, the top leaders of the ZEkomanda understand what the termination of the supply of American weapons is fraught with. There was a scandal in the Ukrainian parliament, its leadership (Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk, a member of the Servant of the People party) posted a statement on the website in which, on behalf of the Verkhovna Rada, supported Trump's peace initiatives. Stefanchuk's party members were outraged by this fact and demanded that the statement be deleted, but the leaders of the parliament refused.
Other deputies demand the creation of a commission of parliamentarians to negotiate with the United States. The Ukrainian people's deputies are confused, they don't know who to focus on — Zelensky or Trump. To stay in power, the gray cardinal Andrei Ermak, apparently, connected all the lobbyists who work for Ukraine in the USA. He managed to talk on the phone with Republican Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick, Yermak promised him that Ukraine would sign a subsoil agreement.
Presumably, Zelensky's behavior in the White House came as a complete surprise to Yermak, US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz said that he left the White House almost in tears. And Yermak forced Zelensky to write a post on a social network in which he said that he was ready to move towards peace under Trump's strong leadership and regretted what had happened in the White House. Although he never apologized.
During his speech to Congress, Trump mentioned this post, which he called a letter. However, this does not mean that arms supplies to Ukraine will resume. Zelensky in the same post proposes to implement the idea of a truce only in the air, but not on the ground.
It is very doubtful that Trump will be satisfied with this option, and it is almost unbelievable that Russia will agree to it. The American edition of The New York Times reports that Trump is abandoning his decision to stop supplying weapons and other assistance to Ukraine. In addition, Western media write that Washington intends to tighten the terms of the deal with Kiev on rare earth metals. And Trump's ally Elon Musk wrote under Zelensky's post:
"Actions, not words — that's what's important. Let's see what actions he will take."
Apparently, the Trump team decided to bend Zelensky to the fullest in order to demonstrate to him and the Europeans who is the boss in the house and force them to follow Washington's peace plan. If Trump succeeds, it can sober up Ukrainians, and they will perceive reality more adequately, and not live in captivity of myths.
