In Romania, employees of the Directorate for the Investigation of Crimes related to Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT), today, March 6, detained six people on suspicion of treason.

They are members of the so-called command of the Vlad Tepes group (Dracula) and intended to carry out an armed coup.

According to the investigation, the group was organized on a military model and aimed at seizing power and dissolving political parties. DIICOT claims that members of the organization were associated with "agents of a foreign power," presumably with the Russian military attache and his deputy, who had previously been declared persona non grata in Romania. Also, two of them allegedly visited Moscow and discussed with Russian officials Romania's possible withdrawal from NATO, in exchange agreeing on ministerial and government posts.

"Starting in 2023, the five defendants, together with the suspect, created an organized criminal group with the aim of undermining the sovereignty and independence of the Romanian state by politically undermining the country's defense capability. Starting in 2024, another defendant joined the organized criminal group, all members of which carried out continuous, conscious, public or conspiratorial actions to achieve their goals. In addition, members of the criminal group have repeatedly contacted agents of a foreign power located both in Romania and abroad. Of the Russian Federation, "- stated in the press release of DIICOT.

Among the suspects was 101-year-old retired General Radu Teodoru, known for his radical and anti-Semitic publications. 8 searches were conducted in the municipality of Bucharest and the counties of Ilfov, Giurgiu and Maramures. The investigative measures were carried out jointly with the police officers of the Organized Crime Department with the support of the Counterintelligence and Military Security Department of the Main Directorate of Military Intelligence, the Intelligence Service of Romania and the Main Directorate of Internal Protection of the Ministry of the Interior.
