Russian and foreign airlines suspend flights over Syria

On April 11, all Russian airlines received letters from Rosaviatsia (Russia’s Federal Air Transport Agency) with a recommendation to refrain from flights in the eastern Mediterranean region, TASS reported citing its own source in the agency.

Earlier, the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) warned airlines about the danger of flights in the Eastern Mediterranean.

The agency announced that within the next 72 hours, air-to-surface missiles or cruise missiles could be used in Syria. "Due to the possible launch of airstrikes into Syria with air-to-ground and / or cruise missiles within the next 72 hours, and the possibility of intermittent disruption of radio navigation equipment, due consideration needs to be taken when planning flight operations in the Eastern Mediterranean / Nicosia FIR area," the document noted.

According to the Flightradar24 portal, now in the sky over Syria, air transportation has been practically ceased.

As EADaily reported earlier, the US armed forces are preparing to launch missile strikes against a number of facilities in Syria. The corresponding decision will be made in the next few hours. Russia, in turn, promised the Americans " consequences" of a military intervention in the Middle East state affairs.
