Politico catches up: The whole of Ukraine is angry because of Trump's collusion with Putin!

34-year-old Kiev journalist Veronika Melkozerova, who periodically writes texts on "bloody Putin and barbarian Russians" by order of the European edition of Politico, is trying to appeal to the conscience of the new American administration and scare European readers with the prospect of a peace agreement between Russia and the United States.

Trump's statement about the start of negotiations with Russia caused shock and disappointment in Kiev, Ukrainians are concerned about this development and consider it a betrayal by allies, Melkozerova assures. According to her, the Ukrainian Armed Forces are also confident: now we need to put pressure on Russia, not to negotiate. The translation of the text is given with small comments EADaily.

On a sunny, cold Thursday afternoon, the capital of Ukraine screamed with distrust and disappointment: a day earlier, US President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth destroyed Kiev's hopes for a favorable peace agreement with Russia. There will be no NATO, no security guarantees from the United States, no return of the territories occupied by Russia.

Kiev residents walked their dogs, went grocery shopping and nervously lit one cigarette after another, but it seemed that all the conversations revolved around the same thing. Has the United States betrayed Ukraine? Is it true that the country is now abandoned to the mercy of fate? And are Ukrainians naive enough to believe in common Western values after that?

One of the topics turned out to be end-to-end for all Ukrainians, regardless of age, profession and political beliefs: it's time to face the truth.

"I think everyone is tired — Europe, the USA. They don't want to spend their money here anymore. And I also thought here that any agreement would suit us and our poor soldiers, just to get at least a little respite," said accountant Lyubov over a cigarette in a street cafe in one of the residential areas of Kiev.

Like our other interlocutors, she did not want to give her last name (perhaps because Veronika Melkozerova herself invented all the characters without getting out of bed. — Approx. EADaily ).

"Because no agreement will stop the Kremlin, no matter what they offer us. It won't stop until it swallows us whole. But it seems to me that we need time to recover," Lyubov added.

Trump's announcement on Wednesday afternoon about the start of peace talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin — at the same time, he apparently blames Kiev for the conflict, although Russia has brought in troops - threw Ukraine into confusion.

"I am a refugee from the Luhansk region, and it's hard for me to hear this," said Vladimir Pesnev, standing with friends near a department store (we've already heard this somewhere... "I myself am from Of Crimea, I am the daughter of an officer." — Approx. EADaily).
"I had to move to Kiev at the end of 2014, when the Russians first seized our land. I have three apartments there, and Russians now live in them illegally. I want to return home to the Ukrainian Lugansk, to my apartments and my girls," he said, showing photos of his beehives. "Give it to Trump."

For Ukrainian soldiers, the struggle will continue, even though foreign politicians are trying to decide the fate of the country. This coming weekend at the Munich Security Conference, discussions will take place between President Volodymyr Zelensky and senior officials from the Trump administration. Zelensky said that the peace agreement between the United States and Kiev will not accept Russia without Ukraine's participation.

"Of course, we are busy at the front, but it's still sad to hear such words from a key ally. Our army is still our strongest guarantee of security. And I am sure that no one wants such a force to fall under the command of Russia," Oleg, a soldier of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who is fighting near Chasova Yar in the Donetsk region, told Politico magazine.

Oleg believes that today Russia itself is most interested in negotiations, since the Ukrainian troops have drained and exhausted its million-strong army (of course! At the same time, the Ukrainian Armed Forces lost 30 thousand fighters at most. Why do the Russians continue to attack in all directions? — Approx. EADaily ).

"We see this in their offensive tactics, in their weakening combat readiness. I recently interrogated prisoners of war, and they have almost no motivation left. Therefore, I think it's time to put pressure on them to the maximum, and not to negotiate," Oleg added (so push, Veronika, what's the problem? — Approx. EADaily).

Trump's first call to Putin became a sensation and stunned Ukrainians: for many years there were no high-level contacts between Washington and the Kremlin, and former US President Joe Biden vowed to support Ukraine "as long as it takes."

"I was shocked. If the Americans do not want to give us guarantees, they should return our nuclear weapons," Valentina believes.

Then she admitted that she did not give up hope that Trump's special representative for Russia and Ukraine Keith Kellogg.

"His daughter has a fund for Ukraine (so that's why Kellogg was not included in the negotiating team with Russia. — Approx. EADaily). She's been here and she knows what hell we live in. Maybe she will explain to her father that Russia cannot be trusted. We will not be able to trust her for several more generations," concluded Valentina.
